A peek into the past week

Last Saturday was the big Arkansas Alabama game...and I have to tell you, I've never been so proud of our town and our Razorbacks. I mean, Fayetteville was HOPPING getting ready for the game! You couldn't find a red shirt in any store within a 30 mile radius. Walmart was even out of red icing because of decorating so many baked goods for tailgating. Students started camping out at the stadium on Monday. On Friday, we ate out at Mellow Mushroom and across the entire restaurant, one side yelled "Arkansas!" while the other side responded with "Razorbacks". Everywhere you went for that week leading up, you could hear someone calling the hogs, somewhere. I mean, people were FIRED UP to play Alabama (and I have to be completely honest and say that the entire time I was thinking to myself, why is everyone so pumped up...we are going to get slaughtered!!) However, our little hogs did awesome!! They were winning up until the very end, and although we came out 4 points shy of the win, I was VERY proud of how well they did against the #1 team in the nation. We still love our hogs.

Lyla had her first taste of Fried Pies...um, pretty sure she was in Hog Heaven. She cried when I tried to take away her 5th one...
Cheering on the team as they walked through the middle aisle...Lyla had the best seat in the house!
After recovering from the loss, we quickly returned to normal life again. This is how I found Lyla after her nap the other day. The girl was apparently trying to undress in her sleep...

Playing with our vintage John Deere Tractor that "K Daddy" (John David's dad) gave Lyla:

And Lyla wasn't the only one doing some playing this week. Patrick, Margot, and Richard came over the other night for some Loafin Joes and Shakes. After stuffing our faces with the goodness, John David and his friends decided to have a little fun of their own with some Airplane Action. You're never too old for a good ole fashioned Airplane ride.

Lyla enjoyed her new Table and Chairs from Aunt JuJu and Uncle JoJo. She's already hosted tea parties for Elmo and Sawyer:
And Daddy enjoyed some snuggles with fresh-out-of-the-tub-and-in-her-cute-robe Lyla:

And, there you go, a little peek into our week! We have a FUN-FILLED weekend coming up and I already can't wait to tell you about it! Stay tuned!! :)

One Year Check-Up

Well, Lyla had her one year well-check today. I was so thankful that John David got to go with me because the baby-girl had to have 4 shots. :( She was so brave though...only cried for about 30 seconds. After some Daddy hugs, her piggie, and passy, she was all better. We rewarded her braveness with some lunch at Chick-fil-a. So, here are her one year stats:
28.5 inches
20 lb. 9 oz. (both just under 50th %)
and I can't remember her head measurement, but it's in the 10th %! haha, tiny little precious head! :)

Here we are in the Doctor's office...yes, those are purple jeggings.
SO, what is Lyla up to at ONE year old, you may ask?? Let's see..
  • my new favorite thing is that she nods her head "yes" after EVERY question you ask her. I honestly don't know if she actually knows what she is doing, or where she even picked this up, but it is so cute.
  • absolutely walking everywhere. And, she does not want to be held! She wants to get down and GO!
  • LOVES looking at books still. All day long, she just brings me different books to read her. Her current favorite is a book called "MOVE!", about how different animals move. (here comes the my daughter is a genius part) Seriously, we've read it so much, that as soon as she sees the picture of the crocodile, she claps her hands like she's chomping. When she sees the bear, she puts her little claw up and says "grrr" (a super sweet, non-aggressive "grrr"...the kind of bear I would like to encounter), and when she sees the snake, she says "ssssssss". I mean, I am impressed! It's amazing to me that her little brain remembers these connections, and just goes to show that I need to keep teaching her things! Also goes to show how OFTEN we read that book a day!! :)
  • we've officially moved to whole milk and gotten rid of the bottle. I thought I would be sad about this, but it's actually nice if you ask me!
  • still LOVES to dance. Anytime she hears music, that head is bobbing.
  • Is pretty independent. Very content just playing on her own.
  • Has gotten real into baby dolls recently. And a few times, has actually picked up her doll and said, "baby".
  • Still says "dog" and "duck" every time we see one.
  • Has 4 top teeth and 3 bottom (I finally started brushing them...oops, maybe should have started that a while ago. Better late than never I guess!)
Hmmmm....that's about all I can think of right now. Still can't believe I have a ONE YEAR OLD!
Happy Weekend everyone! Woooooooo Pig Soooooie!!!!!

out for a stroll

Lyla and I go for a walk just about every day...sometimes 3 times a day. It feels so good to get out of the house every now and then, and Lyla loves to be outside! Usually we are in the BOB or her little car, but today I just let her walk on her own two bare feet. She looked so cute, that I just had to grab my camera and take a few shots. :)

Fall Celebration

Once again, the infamous Katie Henry who helped with Lyla's party threw an amazing Fall Party last week for all our friends. Her party is in a blog competition and she needs all the comments she can get! SO, everyone head over to The City Cradle and check out her work. And be sure to leave a comment!! You will be blown away, once again. And you will probably head straight to Starbucks for a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Happy Fall!! :)

Here are a few pics from the night!

(This was my contribution...writing on the chalkboard. I'm so proud. When she wins, I'm pretty sure that will be the reason why.)

Our Little Sunshine

One of my very best friends, Katie Henry, is the creative genius who made Lyla's first birthday party one of the happiest, most fun days I could have dreamed of. Katie is not only the sweetest, most thoughtful, fun friend and such a blessing in my life...but she is also extremely talented, creative, and has a unique ability to put together an amazingly thought-out party!! Check her out at Katie Grace Designs and use her for your next birthday party, shower, or small event!!! She truly thrives when she is planning a party, and she made this SO easy on me! She literally thought of every single detail and I didn't have to worry about a thing!!

When Katie suggested this "Little Miss Sunshine" theme for our Lyla girl, I fell in love!!! Lyla truly is such a ray of sunshine in our lives and has brought us an unbelievable amount of joy over this past year. So I couldn't think of a better theme to represent her! And I also couldn't help but think of Matthew 5:16 when Jesus tells us to "let your light SHINE before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." That is our prayer for Lyla, that she would be a bright light for Jesus while she is on this earth.

The Birthday Girl checking it all out:

Patrick and Margot showed up in their RV, and we were able to play music on the speakers, generate the bounce house, provide shade with the awning, provide a bathroom, and most importantly for all the guys at the party...scores to the football games! Little did I know how useful this little sucker would be!! Thanks Uncle P and Aunt Marge!!!

Singing all to herself as she ate her cake...classic!

My 16 month old niece, Annie, SERIOUSLY rock climbing. Check out that move!!! IMPRESSIVE!!

And the party ended with some hot, tired, and sweaty kids cooling off by eating ice from the cooler. I think this is a good sign that they played hard! :)

Thank you, Katie, for all your hard work! And thanks to all of our precious family and friends for coming to celebrate Our Little Sunshine turning ONE!!!!
