Adventures with Lyla the Flower Girl!

Our sweet, sweet friend, Savannah Hill, asked Lyla to be the flower girl in her wedding which was last night. When she first asked us several months ago, my first thoughts consisted of "Wow, I'm SO honored she thought of Lyla! That's exactly one week away from my due date. I'm going to be huge and uncomfortable. And, Lyla (I'd say most 2 year olds for that matter) is SO unpredictable, there's no telling what she's going to do as a flower girl!!" So, here's the rundown of how it went...

Savannah did an awesome job preparing her. About a month ago, she brought her a little treat bag full of princess things and candy, along with her cowboy boots and dress. Made Lyla feel VERY special and important. Thankfully, Lyla LOVED her dress!!! She felt like a true princess in it and has begged me to wear it every day since we got it. (Mom and Whit can attest to the most unbelievable melt-down over it because I wouldn't let her wear it till the wedding!!)

Anyway, Friday night was the Rehearsal and Rehearsal dinner. The whole night was SO much fun, and made me feel so much better about everything. Lyla did an awesome job, following directions and feeling so so important. And we even got her to wear her cowboy boots for practice. :) The dinner was so Christ-honoring, and of course I cried several times over the awesomeness of the couple getting married. They both put Christ first in their lives, and because of that, I know they will love each other well and glorify Him in their marriage! SO fun to witness!!

Before we headed out...
Giving baby Lowen a little love before we leave...

Got my flowers...ready to practice!
Thankfully, Lyla knows the maid of honor, Meg, so she was SO crucial in getting her to walk down the aisle.

I love her up there holding Meg's hand. So sweet.

SO, yesterday, I was feeling pretty good about things. Until she woke up from only a one hour nap in a MAJOR FUNK!! I said, "Lyla, it's time to be the flower girl!! Let's take a bath so we can put on your beautiful dress!" She had a total meltdown, and ran to hide under the table, crying and saying "I not take a bath! I not throw flowers down the aisle. I not get dressed!" GREAT!! I quickly emailed my family asking for emergency prayer! :) And, thankfully, after a snack and some Fresh Beat Band, she rallied and I got her dressed. My only final concern was her hair. (ha! I could NEVER be a pageant mom...way too much pressure!!) As you can see, she would NOT let me fix it for the rehearsal dinner. In fact, these days, she won't let me touch it. Refuses to wear bows. Nothing. And I did not want it hanging scraggly in her face for the wedding. John David had the brilliant idea to take her to "Margot's beauty parlor" before the wedding and it worked like a charm! She sat there like a sweet little princess, so patient, just letting Margot play away on her hair...

Of course, she wouldn't wear the cute headband Savannah made her, but we ended up doing a little braid and using a cream flower my mom had made, so it was at least out of her face. Success! :)
As you can see, by this point, she was feeling REALLY cute and ready to go!!
I asked her to take a quick picture with Daddy before we left and she struck this pose all on her own. Might be one of my favorite pictures ever!! She looks SO old!! Love that little boot kicked up.
We were told to be there about 4:30 for pictures (and the wedding didn't start till 7:00!!) So, we passed our time waving to the people arriving...
And taking lots of pics of our sweet girl...

After lots of flights up and down the stairs, a couple meltdowns, and an emergency run to chickfila by daddy, Lyla finally saw the beautiful bride and all was right in the world. She was mesmerized and couldn't stop staring at her and talking about her. So sweet...

Savannah was showing Lyla that she had her cowboy boots on too!
Lyla flirted with all the bridesmaids
finally got her picture taken with the bride and groom, and the cute ring bearers
And Daddy entertained her with this fun hugging game. :)
Once it was time for the wedding to start, John David and I stood off to the side to watch. Game time!  She was supposed to walk down with the ring bearers. But, we soon saw 3 little boys walking down and no Lyla. Great. But, then, here she came, holding Meg's hand. She looked so sweet, and just walked right down so confidently. When she got to the front, Savannah handed her this giant lollipop, and then she came to sit with us, SO proud of herself...Whew! We survived! :)
After the ceremony, we hit up the candy bar. Lyla kept hopping down from the table saying, "I be right back. I go get more candy."...
And then this is what her face looked like after her 5th trip...
She was SO sleepy and on the verge of a meltdown, had a tummy ache from too much sugar, so we said our goodbyes and decided to get her to bed after a LONG day.
HOWEVER, as we started to leave, she heard the music start! And she said, "Mommy! Daddy! I want to dance!" Well, how do you resist that?? So, we let her dance for a few songs...

She was SOOO sleepy, but did not want to stop dancing. haha!!

Look at this sleepy, sleepy girl. We'd say, "Lyla, do you want to go home and go night night?" And, while rubbing her eyes and yawning, she'd say "No, I want more dancing." So, mommy's turn to hit the dance floor with Lyla and Lowen...(thankfully, my dr. was there in case my water broke! ha!!)
On the car ride home, she so sweetly talked the entire time about how much fun she had!! She said "I want to do that every day!" haha! And, when we got home, she asked if she could please sleep in her wedding dress. We said yes. And she kept her bracelet on all night as well. What a fun wedding!!! Thankful for the experience for sweet Lyla. Memories, for sure!!

This time next week...

We will be holding this sweet, active girl God's been knitting together in my womb!!!!
Check out that belly!!! Whoa Mama!! It just makes me chuckle at this point. I really do just grow my baby girls straight out in front!

So, we are going to enjoy our very last weekend as a family of 3. Crazy. Thankfully, I have really been enjoying Lyla this week. Aside from her new wake up time somewhere between 5:30 and 6:30 am (help!!!), she has just been really sweet and a joy to be around (you know, 90% of the time) :). I know it's a gift from the Lord because I feel like I've been able to soak up my time with her, knowing things are about to change big time!! I'm so excited to see her as a big sister. She has always been so sweet toward baby Lowen and gets so excited any time we talk about her. As hard as I know adding another one will be, I just feel ready to be on that side of things and for that to become my new normal.

On another note, Lyla gets to be the flower girl in a wedding tonight!! SO curious to see how that goes! Prayers for cooperation would be appreciated! This girl is unpredictable. :) Pics to come!!

Mommy Daughter Weekend!!

This past weekend, John David went to Atlanta for Daniel Carson's wedding. Seeing as how I was 2 weeks away from my due date, I sadly wasn't able to make the trip. I also was not looking forward to a weekend by myself taking care of Lyla while so uncomfortably pregnant. So, sweet Stephen kept the kiddos so Whitney could come help me and keep me company. My mom decided to join in on the fun at the last minute, so it became a little mother/daughter weekend in Fayetteville and it was SO MUCH FUN!!!!! Saturday morning, we woke up and headed to Rick's for breakfast. YUMMY!!

I seriously think Lyla ate about 18 donut holes, and it put her in a little sugar coma...which resulted in some sweet snuggle time with Cookie...

sweet sugar coma face :)

Lyla went with Aunt Whit and Cookie to watch them bake, and check out all the cakes while I sat at the table drinking coffee and reading The Hunger Games. :)
After breakfast, we shopped at all our favorite Fayetteville places and found some fun things. Then, we ate lunch at Loafin Joes (although I was still soooo full from Ricks!!) After lunch, we went home to put Lyla down for a nap and my mom stayed with her while Whitney and I were treated to a mani/pedi. SUCH a rare treat!! Kaleigh and Phil came over to keep Lyla Saturday night so that Whit, my mom and I could enjoy dinner out with actual conversation. We went to Noodles and had so much fun really catching up and talking about life.
Our "cheers" before dinner...with my water. :)

A quick Sunday morning pic before Lyla and I headed to church, and Whitney and mom hit the road.
We had so many hard laughs about this large belly of mine and the CRAZY movements this child does inside of there!!! My little ninja. So, we ended the weekend with your typical cheesy belly shot. ha! :)
Thanks SOOOO much for coming, Mom and Whitney!!! Lyla and I had SO much fun!!!!! Next time we see you will be for this sweet baby's arrival. Can't wait!

Valentine's Getaway!!

Back in September, Aubrey told us about a great deal at Big Cedar Lodge for a 2 night stay over Valentine's.  I remember thinking "hmmmm, I'm going to be 2 weeks away from my due date!" but several couples from our Community Group were going and we didn't want to miss out on the fun so we went ahead and signed up, just hoping I'd be able to go. SO glad we did!! And I made it back, safe and sound, without going into labor! woo hoo! :) Now, I have to be totally honest and admit that this trip would have been even more fun if I hadn't been so preggo and uncomfortable, however we truly still had a BLAST and created some great memories. John David and I kept saying over and over how blessed we are to have such great friends!!

Precious Jan Jan came down from Texarkana on Sunday. We had a delicious and fun meal out at Pesto Cafe with her, and then came back to the house so she and John David could practice music for a wedding they're playing in. SUCH a treat for me and Lyla to sit and listen to them play. They are amazing. Monday morning, we had a lazy morning with her, ate lunch at the house, and then John David and I headed to Big Cedar. I told Lyla Daddy and I were going on a trip and she just waved and said, "OK bye! Have fun!" and went right on playing. I don't think she even noticed we were gone. :)

As soon as we arrived, we checked into our little lodge and John David had arranged for a dozen roses to be delivered to our room! SO SWEET!!!! We got ready and then headed over to Aubrey's cabin for a "Pre-party" before dinner. She had lots of appetizers and everyone got to see each other before we headed to dinner.
The shuttle picked us up and took us to the Devil's Pool for dinner.

Dinner was SO much fun!! Great food, great convos...

All I kept talking about before we left was how pumped I was to sleep in!! And, of course, I woke up right at 7:45 Tuesday morning and couldn't go back to sleep. So, we got ready and met a big group for a delicious breakfast at Devil's Pool once again. After breakfast, we went to the Branson Landing and just walked around the shops, let the boys look at Bass Pro Shop, then ate at Cantina Laredo with another fun group of friends. We just got some guacamole since we were still full from breakfast and it was so yummy!
We then had to hurry back to Big Cedar to make it in time for Lover's Bingo!! (Hilarious!!) Whenever we got there, the place was already PACKED!! Apparently, not even Big Cedar  knew how popular Lover's Bingo would be! They had to bring in extra chairs and it was standing room only! They were handing out champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, chocolates, and popcorn. They really did go out of their way to make it fun and special. So, literally out of a packed room of people (a mixed crowd for sure), you can only imagine how tickled we got when John David WON the first round!!!! He got to pick his prize, and decided to go with the Whoopie Pies. Ha! He also got some raffle tickets and a bag of chocolates. Score!! I was so proud! :)

After Bingo, we headed to our dinner reservations at The Worman House.

 our view at dinner...
After we ate, we ended up joining Josh and Emily at their table because they were sitting a few tables down from us. We just decided to crash their romantic date. :) We had so much fun visiting with them, and by the time we had sat for a while, we decided we should order a couple desserts and decaf...
As you can see, it was SUCH a fun and special Valentine's Day! A nice little getaway before we enter life with 2 kids!! Thanks Jan Jan for keeping Lyla! She, of course, had a blast!
